My favorite season, anywhere in the world.
Autumn signifies passing more than any other season, a season of death and life at the same time. Through death, we grow and continue to survive. Whether it be hunting to fill our freezers for the long winter ahead, or through the harvest of crops to create the pies, breads and pastries that will fill our bellies through the coming holiday seasons. For me, more than anything, I enjoy the crisp, dry air, the deep blue of the sky and the warm colors of the landscape. The deep blue and warm colors here are compliments of mother nature. The deep yellows at the bottom are compliments of the farmer in the field behind our house as he harvested the huge field of soy, processing it for market. He filled the sky with dust as he harvested, yet filled *4Clarice and I with joy as we spied the deer coming out of the forest to forage through the easy pickings. For me, the soy ties me to Japan, the land that we miss deeply. Especially since this is our first autumn away from that wonderful country. |
